Can a mini split air conditioner with a heat pump heat well in the winter time?
I am considering a three zone mini split a/c with a heat pump, but am worried it will not heat well in the winter time. I am in the DC area. Has anyone used the mini split a/c in a cold, northern environment?
Efficiency of heat pumps goes down when the temperature drops outside to less than freezing. Most heat pumps compensate by having electrical coils, that can heat via more conventional electric resistance heat. This is more expensive.....
Look at the manufactuers specs on the mini unit, and don't be afraid to contact them about the ability of the unit to heat, if it is going to be your primary source of heat.
